Our People, Our Journey: Interviews with
Long-Standing Team Members: Raji Jega

When did you join RxSource and what was your role?

I joined RxSource in November 2006 as an Accountant.

How many people worked for RxSource at that time, and where were you based?

When I started RxSource I was their first ever employee. I was based in the Canadian office.

Can you remember what your first day looked like?

On my first day at work, I was little nervous as I was used to working within a large team. Within my new role at RxSource, I was the only employee, and I was reporting directly to the owner/president of the company.

What was your experience being part of a small team?

Being part of a small team comes with lots of responsibilities, learning opportunities, experience, confidence and a great chance for growth.  My day-to-day tasks were mixed. As an only employee, I was wearing multiple hats. I did the full cycle, order processing, purchasing, receiving, shipping and finally accounting.

What’s your most memorable moment or proudest achievement from your early days at the company?

There are a few moments which stand out for me, one-time Alfan and Yussuf donated medicines through RxSource for the Global Medical camp. I don’t remember the year, but I can’t forget that.

I’m not sure which year it was but RxSource had a Christmas party, and it was also my birthday. It was a memorable day filled with lovely wishes.

Lastly, I will never forget my first trip to Dublin with Shadi. It was a fantastic journey, and I truly enjoyed that trip.

How has the company changed over the past 20 years, and what do you think has stayed the same? Had your job function changed?

RxSource has developed and grown significantly from I started over 17 years ago, we are now a global company. When I started, it was a small business. We used to store pharmaceutical items in a small temperature-controlled room and the refrigerated drugs in a small fridge. Gradually, the business expanded, the small storage room became a large ambient chamber, the small fridge was replaced by a large walk-in fridge. Now we have recently opened our West Deptford facility, our capabilities have significantly increased compared to what we had when we started.

We now have 3 locations, Canada (where it started), USA and Ireland with various additional employees and departments. As for my job function, since we are now global my responsibilities have increased. There is a lot of opportunities to expand my knowledge and develop my skills. The majority of us now work from home which allows me to work with an array of different people from around the globe.

Are there any traditions or practices from the early years that still carry on today?

Celebrating employees’ birthdays in the office by giving a birthday card signed by the team. We also get the whole team out of the office for lunch and the celebration ends with the traditional birthday cake cutting and singing happy birthday.

RxSource still follows the same culture but in a different way -  we give the employee a paid day off as a birthday treat!!

Another tradition that has carried on is during the holiday season. In the early years we had a week-long celebration consisting of team activities, games, potluck, movie night, secret Santa and Christmas dinner. It was fun and everyone enjoyed the party. It was a great chance for everyone to get involved in all fun activities and a chance to meet our colleague’s family members and friends.

This tradition still carries on, only in a different way. Since some of our employees work remotely, RxSource celebrates the holidays as a virtual office holiday party and on site lunch. We still have the week-long celebration with games, food and other fun activities.

What do you think has helped maintain the company’s core values as it has grown?

We always care about our RxSource Core Values as they play an important part in the success of the RxSource’s business. Our senior leadership team shows great support to us all. We always talk about our core values in meetings and how we can maintain and improve on these. We highlight employees during our town hall presentations for living our core values and excelling in what they are doing and reward employees for their hard work and dedication to our values.

What are you most proud of when you think about the company’s journey?

RxSource’s great success is in improving patient’s lives, business growth / expansion, and employees’ growth. I am proud of how far RxSource has come over the past 20 years and the dedication that has been shown to improving the customers journey which in turn impacts many patients lives. I am proud to be part of this journey and the progress that has been made over the years.
